Clsoign Elevations - Locus 7
- North end of locus: 221cm b.d. (26.77m A.E.)
- South end of locus: 229cm b.d. (26.69m A.E.)
The location of the corners of Locus 7 are:
- NW corner: S52, E168.81
- NE corner: S52, E169.31
- SW corner: S56, E168.22
- SE corner: S56, E168.93
Locus 7 produced 2/3 bowl of tile and 28 pieces of pottery and bone.
Locus 8 is the rest of the trench not including where Locus 7 was, for the soil in the former Locus 7 area is grayish-green and clay-like. The soil of Locus 8 is a sandy brown soil, with some carbon inclusions but less plaster than Locus 6 and it is not mottled. Opening elevations for Locus 8 were taken.
Opening Elevations: Locus 8
- A: 219cm b.d. (26.79m A.E.)
- B: 210cm b.d. (26.88m A.E.)
- C: 227cm b.d. (26.71m A.E.)
- D: 215cm b.d. (26.83m A.E.)
- E: 223cm b.d. (26.75m A.E.)
A pick pass was done in the eastern portion of the trench. Soil was shovelled into buckets and sorted in the wheelbarrow. As the eastern side of the trench was still somewhat higher than the rest
of the trench, the area was picked again. While sorting over the wheelbarrow, what appears to be an iron point or spearhead was found (
). In addition, a piece of ridged bucchero ( ), a piece of impasto with a sunburst stamp and striations ( ), and a second piece of ridged bucchero ( ) were found.PM
A pick pass was done in the western portion of the trench and soil was shovelled into buckets and sorted over the wheelbarrow. The soil upturned in the NW corner of the trench began to appear grayish-green, resembling the soil found at the bottom of Locus 7 ; it is possible that this soil in the NW of the trench is a continuation of the Locus 7 greenish-gray soil. While picking, a rochetto fragment ( ) was found. Once the pick pass was cleaned and sorted, the northern portion of the trench was picked and shovelled into buckets and sorted over the wheelbarrow. While picking, the greenish-gray soil began to appear. Also, a piece of folded bronze ( ) was found.
