A datum point for elevations was established at the NW corner of N30E45 at 38cm above surface.
PM
A 10-15cm below surface cut was taken in meters N27-28, E45-46. in the southeast corner of N27, E46 apparent bedrock, fracturing into 10-15cm rocks, was exposed. Several rocks on the eastern baulk of N27, E45 also exposed extending from near surface to +15cm deep. Not removed. Soil in cut fades from dark brown humus at surface to medium brwon subsurface soil. At deeper reaches of cut, a light-brown yellow soil is apparent in spots. material recovered included about 1 doz worn tiles, two of which were heavily burned and vitrified. no other burnt material found. Pottery consisted of about 1/2 dozen impasto and coarse orange ware fragments, evenly scattered in trench. One fragment of a focchetto with fresh ship was removed from southern baulk of N27E45.
