A.M.

The morning began by finishing the first 10cm cut in locus 7, N4W14, topsoil. A piece of chert was found, 4 pieces of tile (5-2cm), 1 piece of pithos fragment and one piece of bone.

The opening depths for locus 8, meter N4W14, the light olive brown soil underneath topsoil, are as follows: NW=22cm b.d, SW= 20, NE =25, SE=24, and middle 23 cm b.d. Within this soil there was a low concentration of carbon flakes. Locus 8 was leveled to locus 6 to further define the formation of the rocks that seem to form the perimeter of the either natural or man-made feature. Although they seem to take on a regular shape, semi-circular or oval, they may have been placed this way by natural forces. 2 pieces of chert

were recovered, red and green, approximately 45 pieces of tile (8-1cm), 3 pieces of coarseware, 46 pieces of impasto, and 5 pieces of bone, 7 orangeware.

A new cut was made in the remaining \xbd of meter N3W14. The surface cut containing the topsoil is locus 9. Only 4 pieces of tile were found in this layer (3-2 cm).

The opening depths for locus 10, \xbd of meter N3W14 containing the light olive brown soil with a clayish consistency, are as follows: E = 19cm b.d. and W = 22cm b.d. (these are also the closing depths for locus 9). In the last 15-20 cm there was no archaeological material. There was a total of six pieces (1-2 cm) of tile and 1 piece of impasto.

The closing depths for locus 10 are E = 39 cm b.d. and W = 40 cm b.d. The closing

depths for locus 8 (N4W14, \xbd N3W14) are NW = 27 cm b.d., SW = 36 cm, NE = 30 cm b.d., SE = 33 cm b.d.

Locus 11 defines the 20 cm cut into the west baulk of Loci 8 and 10 (W4-3, W14) consisting of topsoil identical to that of Loci 7 and 9 (also Loci 1, 3, and 5). The opening of Locus 11 is at the north 20 cm and the south 15 cm b.d. No tile fragments were recovered and only 1 piece of impasto. This soil consisted of the topsoil and was very loose, dry and rocky. Locus 12 was the clayish soil below it. This soil type is consistent to that of Loci 8 and 10, the light olive brown soil; some flecks of carbon were also present in Locus 8, but in low concentration. The

Closing depths for locus 12 for the day are N = 32 cm, S = 36 cm b.d. There were 6 tile fragments found (5-2cm) and 14 pieces of bone. There were 6 pieces of impasto and one piece of bucchero, decorated, possibly mold relief, and 6 pieces of coarseware.

The soil at the bottom of locus 10 in the far west corner of the southern portion of meter N3W14, was yellowish-gray in color and very shale-like, crumbles easily. To see if this soil type extends into locus 4 (N4W12-13, N4W12) a 20 cm cut was taken in meter N4W12. This is most likely pre-galestra.
