Wet Sieve Analysis:

Because of the potential for the recovery of smaller finds, and especially organic materials, from the interior of the well ( Locus 19 ), samples for flotation were saved on four separate occasions from varying depths. When it was found that flotation of the soil was in fact problematic, these soil samples were wet sieved instead. No soil from between or the exterior of the western exterior of the well was sampled.

The results are not overwhelmingly informative, as they show roughly the same ratio of recovery of terra cotta, pottery, and bone as hand sorting in the field produces. The process did, however, reveal a small concentration of drops of slag, so small they cannot register a weight on a scale. Perhaps most interestingly, 713 seeds were recovered, with the majority of them coming from lower down in the well and likely were deposited during the well's usage phase. Though they have not been scientifically analyzed at present, visual inspection reveals that some of them bear similarities to grape seeds.
