Due to high predicted temperatures (ca. 42 C) it was decided to work a half day. General cleaning of the trench is being completed. In Locus 16 the area of the extension was swept and troweled. The area immediately surrounding the locus was also cleaned using brushes and trowels. Small amounts of plaster and pottery were found.
The tiles that were found yesterday continue to be defined. A large pan tile previously visible on the surface at the highest point of the flange was revealed to a length of 0.74m and a width of 0.42m. The tile is leaning at an angle towards the east. Additional excavation is needed to determine if the tile extends under the linear roack feature to the east of Locus 14. While using a leaf trowel to define tiles, a fragment of bone with evidence of burning along with a fragment of plaster and carbon (Special Fine #79) was found.
