Condition Surfaces are pitted, worn, and encrusted. The fragment preserves the finished proper left edge of the frieze plaque, along with the finished top and back.
Fabric Description Terracotta
Munsell Color 5YR 7/6 reddish yellow
Description Painted horserace frieze plaque fragment preserves portions of the rider's head, rider's braid, rider's cape, and the horse's head. The rider is the rider closest to the proper left edge. Portions of seven dentils and seven strigils are preserved. A nail hole in between two strigils completely perforates the fragment. Red and white paint is preserved on portions of the strigils. White painted details are employed to render details such as the horse’s mane and eye while red is used for the reins and other details.
