Morning
Because there was no more wood found in the area surrounding the large section of burned wood, it was decided to lift it this morning. The wood, which is very fragile, was taken out of the ground in three sections.
Next, the Red Layer cut was completed in ABC/9 and continued into ABC/10. This area continues to produce bronze and ivory. In addition to the fragments of sheet and slag, another bronze nail and another bronze tack were found. The number of bronze nails and tacks excavated in ABC/7-10 has been tremendous. Also, a large iron and bronze stud was found today in B-10.
Fragments of two iron nails as well as a chunk of copper slag were also found today.
Ivory continues to be frequent. Approximately 15 fragments of worked ivory were excavated. Most of them are burned. The incision, as it has been on all of the ivory found in this area, is simple and
geometric -- zig-zags, meanders, straight lines, etc. The ivory and bronzes are all being excavated at approximately the same level (Red Layer, 60-80 cm in depth).
Tile continues to be very frequent. Also, today large pieces of stucco were found. Unlike meters ABC/7,8,9, meters ABC/10 produced a great deal of pottery today. Notable are three stamped orange ware fragments: one with animals, one with vossettes, and one with voluntes.
