pottery

Robber damage to the bulks and floor of T-26 1983 was inspected and photographed. All tiles and pottery were collected. Tiles were removed to the southern meters of the trench and kept in the same number grid as collected - i.e. all tiles in M-W/82 were placed in W/82 - to look for letters, fingermarks, covertiles that might join with heads, complete dimensions as well as to attempt to ascertain where they came from. It should be noted that there is a large concentration of pan-tile fragments including flange pieces around meters V-W/67-68 where three stacked pan-tiles had previously been excavated and left for documentation by the architect (see MT book VIII p. 129 , 257 ). This surface tile was collected and kept together to look for joins as they may be from these stacked pan-tiles. Throughout the trench, many of the tile fragments showed fresh breaks and, in some instances, are found laid out in the grass by the side of the trench with joins together. Pithos fragments were also found and reserved with the rest of the tile. Surface tiles were also left in meters aB /59-61 where a tile fall had been uncovered in 1983.

A new dump area for T-26 1984 has been designated to the

east of T-26 as well as an adjacent tile dump. As per standard procedure all pottery shall be collected and kept in tin drums until the end of the season.
