The pottery bed in the southern half of the trench (3.25 m N to 6.70 m N) was cleaned down further and found to contain large section of pithoi. The west trench wall profile also revealed a thin layer of pavement stone at 90-95 cm which lay above the pottery and had been cut through to fine the latter. This pavement level was left

intact in the northern half where it rose to 80-85 cm just below the second course of the wall. The trench thus seems to have three levels- a pavement and stone clusters well above the main building wall, the wall itself and its pavement, and a pottery bed below the building pavement

Continued removing of the second layer. Very few tiles, 2 boxes. The wall continued right through the trench but surrounded with irregular stone formations which made it difficult to define the line of the wall. A piece of banquet frieze (cornice) was found at 2.85 m facing E, 7.50 m facing N.

The trench was taken down to the same level as the surrounding trenches and cleaned. The area surrounding the trench laid stones described p. 87 was cleaned but produced no bones and only few pieces of pottery, which made it seem unlikely that it had any connection with the stone formation described p. 71 in trench 1Z.

Trench 1H from the previous year was extended into the agger with the same width of 1.5 meters (
). The cut was taken across 5.30 m and through the deepest part of the agger (2.00 m down to the floor level of the north side of the complex). At about 80 cm down from this highest point a thin tile layer was found
