This morning the cut in N/95-6 taken yesterday to determine the existance of an additional column base in the central row was further cleaned down. The soil in the cut was frey-brown in color and contained a large amount of small rocks. The large rocks found yesterday at the bottom of the cut continued to be cleaned down, but no column base has yet been identified. In addition, several fragments of worn pottery were also removed from the cut.

Also, the pan tile in J/93 was cleaned down and discovered to preserve a complete legnth. The pan tile was discovered surrounded on the tip by a thick plaster layer and on the bottom by a black burn layer. In addition, several fragments of bone and some ivory were found in the plaster soil above the tile. Some of the bone

may have been worked. Follwoing the photographing of the tile, it was faced with Kapanese tissue using a solution of 25% PVA AYAF in alcohol. The tile was faced in two sections to facilitate the lifting. (See documentary photographs on facing page)

Final site photographs were taken including the tile which was "faced" during the morning, still 'in situ'. After photographing the area the pantile (see AM entry and find #1) was lifted and remained in apparrently good condition. Two bags of tile fragments (one probably or certanly belonging to it, the other possibly) were also brought down. Beneath and round the tile were many small bone fragments, some of which many have been worked. Several unburned covertile fragments were found in the burn layer beneath the lifted pan tile.

Using three set points to the north of T26 and the building the six easternmost column bases in the northern and central rows were drawn.  These included bases found in 1985 and 1986, but not the "possible" base in JK/96.
