Daily Log

June 19, 1975

This morning, the workment continued to excavate about 10 cm deeper into the agger fill of grids F-A 8-4.

So far, we have five pieces of lateral sima, three pieces of cornice, and two heads (lion and human).  We have removed a large stump in E-D6 which had several terracotta fragments closely packed in the roots (pan and cover tiles, frieze plaque).

This level on the whole is producing more terracotta.  We have also found a fragment of plaster with reed impressions, and our first pieces of raking sima and more bone.  We are continuing to find a few pieces of coarse pottery and some finer ware, including two bases and three sherds of the same rim.  Also one tiny piece of bucchero.  And more bucchero! (4 pieces) C-6.

Most of the architectural terracotta have occurred in grids F-D 8-4 so far.

We are encountering only smaller, chipped rocks in this stratum (agger fill) except for an occasional large rock fallen from wall 2.

1 cassetta tile - discarded.  1 strawberry carton of coarse pottery - discarded.

Another piece of ridgepole tile (?)
