Introduction Rect. 1 & Rect. 2

Rect. 1 and Rect. 2 are enclosed by foundation walls in the N.E. corner of the upper building (see diagram-for previous excavation in the area see T. Gantz Bk,2, pgs.219-251 ).

The area under consideration is Rect. 1, A-F/1-6 and Rect. 2, A-F/1-5. Previous excavations revealed numerous terracotta heads, lateral simas and frieze plaques. The purpose of this particular excavation is to uncover any material still present within this sector, and to define the rock packing within both rectangles.
