Introduction
T-23 and its extensions.
The excavation of T-23 1980 Extension yielded ivory, bronze, and terracotta artifacts in the same manner as its predecessors, T-23 1979 Extensions and T-23 1978. Work will continue in the T-23 area again this year in two new trenches: T-23 1981 Extension and T-26.
T-23 1981 Extension will employ the same grid system as previous T-23 trenches ( see MC I p. 7 ) while T-26, though in the T-23 area, will utilize an entirely new grid system which can conveniently accomodate trenches along the entire southwestern flank of the "upper building."
The goals of this year's excavation of the T-23 area remain unchanged:
- More bronze, ivory, and bone artifacts are sought, particularly figures carved in bone or ivory to complement those found in previous years.
- An explanation of the source of these artifacts is sought, whether in the form of architectural remains or any other form of explanation which might reveal how and why these artifacts are concentrated in this area outside the "upper building."

Note: Cassette of tile and boxes of pottery shall be counted as follows: 1 = I, 2 = II, 3 = III, 4 = IIII, etc.
