Description Locus 3 extends over roughly the northern half of the original trench and includes a curvilinear rock feature running roughly east-west across the trench and all soil located to the north of this feature. Toward the bottom of the locus, a projection of larger rocks and tile, lying at acute angles relative to the trench floor, were found moving north out of the curvilinear, east-west running rock feature and to the east of this projection, a packing of small, flat rocks was discovered in the northeast corner of the locus. The soil of Locus 3 was primarily a medium olive-brown color and sandy but dense in texture, with many patches of gray, chalky soil that resembled galestra and are likely associated with the limestone of the curvilinear rock feature. Relatively little material was recovered from this locus but some pottery and iron slag were found. All materials found in this locus are ancient, indicating that it is a contextualized, stratified deposit. Locus 3 is equivalent to Locus 8, which extends over the original area of the trench and the northern and western extension; Locus 3 was closed and Locus 8 opened so that materials from both the original portion of the trench and the extension could be kept together.
