Description | Locus 1 is the topsoil, humus layer throughout the entirety of the trench. There are two stumps along the northern baulk, two within the trench and one along the southern baulk. There are three visible rocks next to the large stump within the eastern half of the trench. The soil is very hard, crumbly and a medium brown color. There are numerous small, loose rocks that appear to be separating the humus layer from the next layer. Terracotta and pottery fragments were found, along with a fragment of modern iron and a fragment of medieval pottery with traces of glaze. |
