Trench VT17
Description Locus 3 is the third stratum of VT17. It lies below Locus 2. It is a hard packed layer of small chert-like stones. As in the upper strata the materials recovered were mixed, mainly comprising ancient and medieval tile and pottery and some iron fragments. An abundance of tile was present in Locus 3 and prior to its excavation three stones became visible during the excavation of Locus 2. These are defined as Locus 5, but were partly visible in the eastern most area of Locus 3.
