Description |
Sediment sample 30.22 was collected on the 25.7.2022 and had an original volume of 24 litres. It derives from trench 101, locus 7, the fill of the preserved drain. The sample was floated on the 27.7.2022, details on its content can only be assessed in the future, but the preliminary impression was that charred plant remains are not abundant. The heavy fraction was sorted on the 1.8.2022. It was divided into a >6mm, >3mm, and >1mm fraction. Of the >6mm and >3mm fraction 100% were sorted, the >1mm fraction was subsampled and 25% of it were sorted. The remaining 75% of the >1mm fraction are stored in the magazzino, in case that future microscope sorting should become relevant. The variety of arte- and geofacts was high. In the >6mm fraction charcoal, mollusc shell, bone, pottery, and terracotta were recovered. In the >3mm fraction charcoal, microfauna, mollusc shell, and hammerscale were recovered. In the >1mm fraction charcoal, mollusc shell, microfauna, and hammerscale were recovered. In both the >3mm and >1mm fraction were undiagnostic bone and pottery/terracotta fragments observed, which though have not been recovered. In general finds were not abundant, except for the microfauna, which occurred frequently compared to other samples from this season. Hammerscale on the other hand was much underrepresented compared to the other samples from the same season. Even in the >1mm fraction only a couple of fragments were recovered, which, considering the root activity observed in the area, might also be intrusive. |
