Stage Description | Main construction of the Bath Complex. |
Top (m) | Opening elevation: 901.709 m. |
Location | This doorway is located in the north of the curvilinear chamber Locus 5. It is the main access to the curvilinear chamber from the Reception/Vestibule Room of the baths. It extends up to the east face of Locus 3 and to the west face of Locus 5. |
Description | This doorway lintel, which is crudely incised with an arch, is oriented northeast southwest. On the north it is supported by six courses of reused sandstone ashlars, and to the south there are nine courses of reused ashlars set into three rows with prolific amounts of mortar. From its threshold there is a step down into the curvilinear chamber Locus 5. The bath system seems to have been planned as a single unit and it appears that it is on the same axis of orientation as the Great Temple, northwest to southeast. This locus along with others of the bath complex appears to be self-contained elements in an overall design that physically distinguish different areas of the baths. |
