Trench Description | Trench F4 is located on the steep slopes of Kenan Tepe’s lower town. Because if its location the trench was not fit into the north-south grid, but instead was laid out according to site topography. Trench F4 was an important trench because it allowed us to define the nature and chronology of occupation in Kenan Tepe’s lower town within the first two seasons of excavation. The trench is characterized by a large beehive shaped Late Chalcolithic oven. Most of the corpus of faunal material from this trench was analyzed early in the history of the project and thus this trench was important for our initial interpretation of the fauna of the Early Bronze Age and Late Chalcolithic period at Kenan Tepe. |
