Condition | Fragments are worn, slightly pitted, and very encrusted. Fragments A-D preserve one sawn edge each. Fragment B has one modern chipped edge. All other edges are ancient breaks. Fragment A consolidated from 5 pieces. All fragments are associated but none join. |
Description | Eight fragments of antler, four of which preserve a sawn edge (Fragments A-D). Fragment A has a convex exterior and partly concave but partly amorphously, bulbous, spongy interior. One end is sawn transversely almost perpendicularly across the grain of the antler (max. pres. width: 0.02392m; max. pres. thickness: 0.00547m). The opposite edge is broken transversely at a diagonal. Fragment B has a convex exterior as well as concave interior. One edge is sawn (max. pres. width and max. pres. thickness of the fragment) transversely and perpendicular to the grain of the antler. The opposite edge is broken transversely at irregular angles. Fragment C has a convex exterior as well as concave interior. One edge is sawn (max. pres. width and max. pres. thickness of the fragment) transversely but slightly off perpendicular with the grain of the antler. The opposite edge is broken at irregular angles. Fragment D is relatively flat on its exterior and interior. One edge is sawn (max. pres. width and max. pres. thickness of the fragment) transversely but slightly off perpendicular with the grain of the antler. The opposite edge is broken almost parallel to the sawn edge. Fragments E-H all preserve exterior and interior faces, but are rather flat. None has evidence of working preserved. All eight fragments are associated, but do not join. |
