Description |
Locus 9 was located directly below Locus 8 and measures approximately 2x2 with the northern portion being an irregular shape due to an arbitrary baulk walk from T-101 (2022) along the northern edge. In order to bring the entire area of excavation down to level with the drain pipe in T-101, the locus included a roughly triangular shaped area north of the extension which was located in T-101 (2022) south of where the drainage pipe ended. Locus 9 is a dense and compacted grey brown silty clay mottled w/light grey and yellow clay inclusions. A small stump and another larger stump of approximately 20 cm in diameter are located in the northwest corner of the locus and a significant number of large roots of approximately 15 cm in diameter continue throughout the entirety of the locus. The large rocks in the northwest and southeast corners of the locus were able to be removed but small to medium sized rocks continued to occur throughout the locus. A majority of the large roots were able to be removed at the bottom of the locus when it had been brought down to level with the rest of T-101 before closing. A slight increase in artifact density occurred in Locus 9 and consisted of terracotta and larger fragments of architectural tile as well as coarseware, impasto, fine impasto, and bucchero fragments. Locus 9 contained larger, less abraded fragments of architectural tile indicating the locus was in close proximity to an archaic layer. Very little bone was recovered from this locus totaling three fragments. Locus 9 was declared closed after the extension became level with the rest of T-101 (2022). |
