Description This locus was located in the soutwest corner of the central sondage, at the junction of Wall Locus 6 with the east face of the blockage (Locus 11) in the west vault (Tr. 97, 2004, Locus 11). The surface on which the fire was built (Locus 16) is that on which the lowest ashlar courses of Wall Loci 3 and 6 rest. Discoloration on the underlying surface (Locus 16) indicates this was a single and localized fire event in situ, and its remnants resemble a modern Bedouin tea fire. Given its placement at the junction of the south wall (Locus 6) with the west vault, it seems likely this may have been built by the workers before commencing the modifications. No objects were associated with this surface, but a charcoal sample was retrieved for analysis.
Location Southwest corner, central sondage between Loci 3 and 6.
Combined with Loci 3, 6.
Preserved Height ca. 0.01 m.
Phase Description Phase V: Late Nabataean CE 1st c. redesign and repairs.
Size 0.30 m. north south-by-0.29 m east west.
