Descriptive Attribute Value(s)
Architectural or Soil Locus? Soil
Underlies Locus 18.
Definition Compacted soil layer adhered to Locus 18
Description A compacted layer of soil consisting of clay, silt, and sand with a Munsell Color range between 10 YR 6/4 (Light Yellowish Brown) and 6/6 (Brownish Yellow). This locus is not pervasive throughout the sounding, and is visible only in the east and south balks. The soil in Locus 18 above adheres to that in this layer. Locus 19 may be the lower portion of a single sedimentation deposit that includes Locus 18 (see Locus 18 description). The color range suggests that this is limestone soil, and thus originates outside of the valley. This thin layer may represent the outer edges of the last flooding event to reach this far south of the current wadi bed. No artifacts were retrieved.
Bottom (m) Closing elevation: lowest 891.721 m.
Location Southeast corner, central sondage, between Loci 3 and 6.
Phase I
Overlies Locus 20.
Preserved Height variable, see balk sketches.
Combined with Loci 18, 20, 21.
Stage Stage 7
Stage Description Sedimentation.
Phase Description Phase I: Preparation: 1st c. BCE early subterranean canalization installed. The bedrock beneath the Lower Temenos is leveled.
