Description The shallow humus layer of a 3m X 3m extension opened 17, July 2007. The soil is a deep, medium brown and very lightly packed. This locus contains a high concentration of organics, roots and small rocks. This spongy root mat, which is rotted in places and consequently has a white hue, is likely a result of a large stump in the northwest corner of the extension. The locus is approximately 1-3 cm thick and quickly gives way to a grayer, more clay-like soil. Very little recoverable material was found in this locus.
