Condition | Fragment is broken transversely through the handle and broken at the point of attachment to the vessel, though preserving some of the interior vessel body. Fragment is worn, pitted, abraded, chipped, and encrusted. |
Description | A fine impasto strap handle fragment which is trifurcated. Both the exterior and interior of the handle is finished. The fragment is widest at its point of attachment to the body of the vessel, part of the interior of which is still preserved in the attachment scar. Ringing the edge of the attachment scar, where the fragment transitions from body to handle, the fabric is lipped up and slightly raised, probably part of how it was once attached. From this widest part of the handle fragment, the finished, smoothed edges of the handle curve slightly inward, narrowing the width of the handle; one side curves inward more than the other. The trifurcations begin at inconsistent lengths, 0.03194m and 0.03534m below the edge with the attachment scar respectively. Each segment of trifurcation is approximately 0.01172m in width. The indentations delimiting the trifurcations are about 0.00137m in width. The interior is less well preserved than the exterior of the fragment and one of the trifurcations is heavily chipped. |
