Trench Description | Trench F6 is located about half way between the high tell and the river on the slopes of the southern edge of the site. F6 was originally dug as a test trench in 2001 when it was excavated as a 2 by 4 meter unit. In 2005 the trench was expanded into a 5 by 5 meter unit. This trench was designed to obtain a profile of the southwestern edge of Area F to see if the site continues to the west and to see if any Ubaid period remains exist in this area of the site. Excavations in trench F6 showed first that the Late Chalcolithic site does extend into this part of the site, although the deposits are not nearly as deep as they are, for example in trench F1. Excavation in this trench also showed that no Ubaid period remains extend for Kenan Tepe’s main mound into its lower town. Although only a few traces of architecture were unearthed in this trench, a reasonably good corpus of Late Chalcolithic ceramics was recorded. |
