| General remarks | The fill in this locus is much like that on locus 7, the reason for saparating this one stems from the few cobblestones found here. About 1.50 meters from the South baulk there are two rows of stones, purpose is unknown and could be random. Closer and abutting the South baulk there are three rowns of cobbles jutting out from the baulk and spaced fairly evenly, again purpose is unknown but interesting. |

| Description remarks | A bit darker fill than that above. More potterry is located in this fill than closer to surface. There are also a few medium size cobblestones. |
| Has note | Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci. |
