Description The cavea (seating) of the Theatron; specifically, the east half as divided by the central scalarion (see above). The cavea can be further divided into a center-east and east cuneos ("wedge") by the east scalarion, but the excavator has decided to combine these elements in order to consolidate loci. These "wedges" are constructed in the same fashion: rows of bench like seats of carved limestone are set above a fill layer in a semi-circular arrangement. Some seats (especially those flanking the scalaria) are grooved on top and front, probably to receive wooden elements like rails or armrests (see Locus 54 below). Each seat is approximately 0.40 m high and 0.58 m deep; they are preserved for five rows in the east, but the top and bottom rows, and the extreme north edge of the cavea, are not as well preserved as the central areas.
Stage Description Construction of the Theater and its support structure.
