Scanning method Observations occurred 6-8 days per month, from dawn to dusk. Instantaneous scan sampling (Altmann, 1974) at 15-minute intervals, with each scan taking approximately 5 minutes. For each individual, the first activity that lasted at least 10 seconds was scored.
