Description | Curving, exterior section of an impasto double handle. Attachment scar below shows where it was attached to vase. This section is decorated on the outside with the molded figure of a winged woman in a frontal position, rendered from the waist up but broken at the neck. The wings begin at the waist and extend past the shoulders to the top break, gradually widening. They are adorned with horizontal incised tongues. Two wide rope-like strands (tresses) border the interior of the wings. These strands are adorned with incised diagonal slashes. From each lateral side, an arm extends diagonally, bent at the elbow. The hands clutch the rope-like strands (tresses). The fingers are rather crudely rendered by four incisions for her right hand and three for her left. |
Fabric Description | Impasto. Fine grain. Burned orange. |
