Description A full length of lead pipe some 10.1 m long and 9 cm in diameter, well-preserved in most areas but corroded in some places, running e-w between and through the two engaged columns of the exedra. It would seem from initial exploration that the pipe constitutes a late feature and is cut through the sides of the columns, which were then plastered. The pipe was laid in segments which were then crimped or soldered together; some joins are still visible. This pipe is most certainly the same that was found in fragments running in front of the East-West Retaining Wall recovered in 1996 and 1997. Fragments coming off the decaying sections of the pipe were preserved and sampled as Metal Container 36.
Stage Description Architectural additions and repairs made to the East Exedra including re-plastering and the construction of the intercolumnar walls.
