Condition | The fragment is broken and chipped along almost all of the circumference of the rim. The upper surface and sides are finished, but the lower surface is unfinished. The surface is generally well preserved, but slightly pitted and cracked. |
Description | Round handle fragment of a bucchero lid. The bottom of the piece, where it would have attached to the lid, is broken, preserving no portions of the lid. The interior of the round attachment scar is recessed and unfinished. The sides of the fragment rise sharply concave outward from the attachment scar to the rim. The finished upper surface is recessed, concave inward. The sides preserve prominent round burnishing marks, and the interior of the upper surface preserves hexagonal burnishing marks. |
