Pottery Summary
The amount of ceramic material recovered from T25 was once again very large. The material was all very fragmentary and many fragments showed signs of wear or burning. Only two full profiles were recovered -- an impesto bowl ( p. 163 #6 ) and a larger impesto bowl ( p. 163 #8 ).
The majority of the material consisted of coarseware and impesto, with the amount of fineware being minimal. All material was laid out on two tables in the magazzino for further study, with the exception of smaller impesto and coarseware body shards, which were discarded. Also, approximately 4 cassetti of pithos fragments from Y-Z/16-18 were discarded at the site after looking unsuccessfully for joins.
*Addendum: Artifact 19950151 , a partial profile of an impesto bowl, was assembled from bulk pottery sherds from coordinates Y-Z/13-14 at an approximately depth of 185-195 cm b.d. Three non-joining fragments are associated with this bowl.
The overall breakdown of pottery by stratum:
Y-Z/13-14 23%
Y-Z/15-18 and alpha-beta/13-14 27%
Y-Z/16-18 50%
* See AMC I for profile drawings. Only new profile types will be noted in this book (AMC II).
