Local Landmarks Road to village of Ösen, off Adana Rd. Largest site in area easily visible from most of the section of the valley.
Setting In Aksu valley surrounded by cotton, tomatoes, other irrigated garden crops; wheat and olives on hills in distance to west, some remnants of oak pistachio woodland
Site Description Large mound, black soils--were crops on it burned, fortress mound with lower terraces, top dimesions 65 EW x 80 NS Photo 12 from east and top, 15 from north first site of 94 survey 4/6=slide
Survey Conditions(include time spent on site) Very windy, cover of burnt wheat and grass stubble on parts of site burnt and cultivated. Upper ten, lower ten, top and perimeter collected separately
Collection Comments Complete study done by Nancy UM, many distinctive Medieval handles, decorated some with thumb knob, scraffiatto plates and bowls, drip painted, pie crust rims, Danişmen storage jar rim

Middle Bronze Age note Trefoil pitcher// 5 pieces ridged ware (grey veg/grit red slipped; 2 orange brown; 1 brown with interior brushing); 2 pcs of MB ridged ware with interior overlap, some drawn in past seasons//late MB examples also present (6-00 #227) Reset the MB attribution for the site (looks like there is some EB-MB ridged ware and then some late MB-LB material but not massive indications. (LSD 6-03)
Late Bronze Age note 2 poss LB-IA (need to recheck) barrel jars with thickened rim; 4 flat plates (poss LB); 1 pc with painted band above ridge; 5 LB jars minimum - 4-6 LB platters (Note to self -- need to recheck these forms for correct period)
Iron Age note carinated bowls//possible miscellaneous IA or LB carinated bowls (228?this one now seems not IA to me (02-01) & 227 & 3 others ) This attribution might better be characterised as a trace, I don't see really strong indications for IA here. (LSD 6-03)
