Description Locus 4 extends over roughly the southern half of the original area of the trench and lies to the south of the curvilinear, east-west running rock feature that is included in Locus 3. Like Locus 3, Locus 4 is composed of a medium olive brown colored soil that is sandy but dense in texture; however, Locus 4 contains fewer patches of gray, chalky soil than Locus 3 does. Additionally, far higher quantities of materials were recovered from Locus 3, including high quantities of iron slag, bronze, and ceramics, although noticeably, not as much tile was found in this locus. All materials found in Locus 4 are ancient, although it is difficult to determine whether materials date to the 7th or 6th centuries BCE. Locus 4 is equivalent to Locus 9, which extends over the original area of the trench and the northern and western extension; Locus 4 was closed and Locus 9 opened so that materials from both the original portion of the trench and the extension could be kept together.
