Description
  • The soil of this locus is dark brown, loose in texture, full of organic matter and small stones fist size and smaller.

  • Locus 1 extended throughout the entirety of the original trench sloping slightly downward from north to the south. Locus 1 is considered to be topsoil, non-contextual and full of organic materials such as small and large roots (extending from a large tree on the western wall of the trench), and small to medium sized rocks measuring between 10-34 centimeters in size. The soil of Locus 1 is dark brown and breaks up into large clumps. The depth of Locus 1 is very shallow, measuring approximately 3-7 centimeters. Small amounts of architectural terracotta and pottery are present in this locus and all materials found were heavily abraded from erosion. No materials from this locus are considered to be contextual and there were no catalogued finds. Locus 1 is synonymous with the Locus 1 of nearby trenches T-91 and T-92, located directly to the north of T-93.

  • Locus 1 is the area directly north of the T-22 west extension that is the unexcavated decontextualized layer of topsoil. It is a dark-brown humus layer with organic inclusions consisting of a high concentration of roots and root rot in the northwestern corner. A concentration of rocks about 7cm in size in addition to architectural terracotta and pottery were discovered throughout the locus. Locus 1 was relatively shallow at about 5cm in depth and slopes down west to east as well as north to south. Locus 1 is analogous to Locus 1 of T-91 and T-93, just south and east of T-92. Soil samples were not acquired from this locus. Few materials were derived from this locus including a couple pieces of bone and pottery, however, these were fairly eroded. No cataloged finds were recovered from this stratum.
