Relative Asymmetry First Use Phase (Descriptive Attribute)
Documentation Note
This measure is calculated according to the analytical section (i.e. Central Megaron Complex, Administrative Complex, Rowhouses West or Rowhouses East). The Relative Asymmetry (RA) value is a global measure of how accessible a given space is from any other space in the system. RA values are standardized to fall between zero and one. Spaces with low RA values closer to zero tend to integrate the system, whereas spaces with high values, closer to one, tend to segregate the system (Hillier and Hanson 1984:108-9).
RA is calculated by the formula: RA = 2 (MD-1)/k-2 where MD = mean depth and k = total number of spaces in the system.
This value is distorted when comparing settlements of different sizes. In such situations, the Real Relative Asymmetry should be used.
These values describe the first use phase.
