Description A fragment of a probable South Italian ceramic vessel preserves approximately 0.022 m of a beveled rim with a line of red just below it on the interior surface. Fine striations on the interior surface indicate the vessel was wheel-made. On the exterior surface on the left side is preserved a red figure profile of probably a female, from the hair to just under the chin where there is a shallow chip in the fabric. The female has dark hair pulled back with short, lighter lines of slip to indicate curls. Near where the ear would be lines of two sideways "U" shapes, joined by a dot, indicating another curl or lock of hair. The profile has an aquiline nose, small, turned-down mouth, and round chin. The chin is defined and below is a small portion of the neck. Just above the chip is a thin, dark line of slip, possibly the neckline of a garment, though it is obliterated by the chip. The eyebrow is a short, straight line above the eye. The eye is rendered with a line parallel to the eyebrow, just above a dot for the pupil. The corner of the eye is indicated with a short, curved line that does not meet the pupil.
