Daily Log

AM

Commenced 3 pick passes in Locus 25 .  The same material and soil are still being turned up.  Commenced another pick pass and it seems that in the western area of Locus 25 the soil seems to be changing to a sandier soil like the one found in Locus 24 .  In the northeast area immediately to the west of the rock feature we are hitting a great deal of terracotta and pottery.  While sorting this area a forno fragment was recovered (Find #1).  We will now continue to excavate the Locus 25 soil which is still being found in the northeastern area.  It seems that the sandier soil extends across the entire area of Locus 25 so we will clean up the baulks to see its extent.  Then we will commence a shallow pick pass to reveal the sandier soil completely.  We have  some large brick fragments in the soil.  We are now leveling the trench in preparation for the declaration of a new locus.  The new sandier soil which is found in the area of Locus 25 and the southern meter of Locus 24 will be declared Locus 26 . Locus 26 is characterized by a loose sandier soil.  There are large pieces of terracotta visible in it with what seems to be 3 visible brick fragments.  The mojority of the tile seems to be located directly under and east

of the stone feature.  It has a munsell designation of 2.5 Y 4/4 olive brown.

Took Photographs

Commenced a pick pass across Locus 26 .  We seem to have uncovered some of the sandy soil with mica associated with Locus 23 in the western most area of Locus 26 .  Not much material is coming up around it.  We will try to uncover more in the afternoon.

PM

Commenced pick passes across locus 26 .  Still findi8ng most of the material in the northeastern area of the trench.  Continuing to remove the soil.  While sorting a terracotta brick preserving 3 sides was recovered (Find #2).  Also recovered a warped piece of antler (Find #3).
