Excavation continued in locus 4. The southern half of the trench was excavated and lowered approximately 2-5 cm. The entire trench is turning up white friable limestone pieces. Locus 4 was closed. Approximately 3 bowls of terracotta fragments were recovered. A 1/4 of a latte box of pottery sherds was found. One piece of iron slag was made a bulk find. Three special finds were made. Special find #3 was recovered from the terracotta dump and positively identified as coming from locus 4 on 20 July. Locus 5 was declared over the whole trench. Photos were taken and co-ordinate depths measured.
Opening co-ordinates of locus 5:
NW (46-E/53-S): 134 cm. below datum point = 25.11 m. above absolute elevation.
NE (46-E/53-S): 148 cm. below datum point = 24.97 m. above absolute elevation.

Opening co-ordinates of locus 5 (cont.):
SW (42-E/57-S): 148 cm. below datum point = 24.97 m. above absolute elevation.
Locus 5 is characterized by white friable limestone pieces and flaked limestone.

SW (42-E/57-S): 157 cm. below datum point = 24.88 m. above absolute elevation.
It was decided that a sounding would be made against the north balk wall, encompassing 44-46-E/53-54-S. This area was declared locus 6. Photos were taken and opening co-ordinate depths
measured.
