Preparing to declare Locus 2 over the entire trench. Continued baulk walling the entire trench. Material collected as Locus 1 , as this locus is the only one open over the whole area of the trench. Declared Locus 2 over the whole area of the trench. Opening photographs and elevations taken.

NW Corner: 29.82m A.E.

NE Corner: 29.79m A.E.

SE Corner: 29.64m A.E.

Locus 2 is a medium brown soil mottled with a yellow soil. There are terra cotta fragments visible on the surface. The texture of the soil is less claylike and lighter. Pick pass done in the southernmost five meter by one meter area. Soil sorted and cleaned from the trench.

Terra cotta and pottery present in the soil. Soil much looser packed and more powdery consistency. Continued picking towards the north in the next meter area. Soil sorted and cleaned from the trench. Pottery and terra cotta still being found. Soil remains consistent with Locus 2 , but just below it coming upon a new soil which looks like deteriorating rock. Continuing to move northward, picking in the third five meter by one meter area. Soil remains consistent with Locus 2 , medium brown soil mottled with yellow. No more deteriorating rock being found below the recent pick passes. Terra cotta and pottery being recovered from the soil. Area around the stumps cleaned, and one stump near the southern baulk removed. Soil cleaned from stump and sorted.
