AM

Started with a pick pass through locus 9 , the gray soil that had been exposed under locus 4 is extending under the western half of locus 9 . A 2nd pick pass was then done through the locus. While cleaning the dirt a piece of iron slag (special find #1) was found. Excavation started in locus 10 , a mini pick and trowel was used to remove the yellow flakey soil. Very little material is being recovered, it is coming from around the stump. The stump at 152E/ 97S is being defined.

A third pick pass was done of locus 9 , shallower than the past two in order to see where the grey soil is being exposed and where the locus 9 soil remains. The extremely large rock from the middle of locus 9 was removed from the trench. Afterwards, a pick pass was done of locus 9 , focusing on where the rock had been which was higher than the rest of the locus. A very large and unusually intact jaw bone was also found in locus 9 (special find #2).

Another shallow pick pass was done in locus 9 and it seems that the extent of the carbon included soil has been removed. The bottom of locus 9 was scraped down with trowels and sprayed with water bottles. Once we were confident that all of the soil was gone, locus 9 was closed. Closing photographs and elevations were taken.

Locus 9 : Closing Elevations

A: 21.70 mAE

B: 21.68 mAE

C: 21.62 mAE

D: 21.65 mAE

F: 21.64 mAE

G: 21.65 mAE

H: 21.72 mAE

I: 21.78 mAE

J: 21.50 mAE

Because the soil beneath locus 9 was so baked and discolored rom the significant time it was exposed, a shallow pick pass of the entire trench was done in order to see the soil delineations.
