Locus: 1

Date and Page Opened: 15

Date and Page Closed: 31

Munsell: 7.5 YR 2.5/2 Very Dark Brown

Description: Locus 1 extended throughout the entirety of the original trench sloping slightly downward from north to south and from west to east. Locus 1 is considered to be topsoil, non-contextual and full of organic materials such as small and large roots (extending from a large tree on the southern wall of the trench) and small to medium sized rocks measuring between 10-34 centimeters in size. The soil of Locus 1 is a dark brown and breaks into large clumps. The depth of Locus 1 is shallow, measuring approximately 10 centimeters in depth. Very small amounts of pottery sherds, bone fragments, and architectural terra cotta are present in this locus and all materials found were heavily abraded due to erosion. No materials from this locus are considered to be contextual and there were no catalogued finds. Locus 1 is the locus directly on top of Locus 2.

Locus: 2

Date and Page Opened: 29

Date and Page Closed: 45

Munsell: 2.5 Y 6/3 Light Yellowish Brown

Description: Locus 2 is the locus directly below Locus 1 in the original trench. The depth of Locus 2 is very shallow, approximately 4-7 centimeters in depth and slopes slightly downward from north to south and from west to east. Locus 2 is a light yellowish brown and is heavily compacted with a clay-like texture. Although Locus 2 contains less organic materials than Locus 1, there are still small to medium sized roots present that extend from the large grouping of trees directly on the southern baulk. There are also multiple small to medium sized rocks present throughout the middle extent of the locus, at approximately 170.5 E/ 41 S. Locus 2 is a deposit and is considered to be non-contextual given that this area was previously excavated in the 1969 season. Locus 2 is directly above and synonymous with Loci 3, 4, and 5.

Locus: 3

Date and Page Closed: 69

Munsell: 2.5 Y 6/3 Light Yellowish Brown

Description: Locus 3 is the locus that encompasses the soil directly above the upper portion of the terracotta drain that extends out to the north from the southern flank of the Archaic structure wall. Locus 3 is very shallow in the north, measuring approximately 2 centimeters and lower in the south, measuring approximately 10 centimeters. This difference in measurements is because of the presence of the upper portion of the drain fragments in the north. Locus 3 has a downward slope from the north to the south. Locus 3 is considered to be non-contextual because of previous excavation and all materials found within would have been placed there organically through natural erosion. Locus 3 is synonymous with Locus 4 and Locus 5.

Locus: 4

Munsell: 2.5 Y 6/3 Light Yellowish Brown

Description: Locus 4 is the locus directly to the west of Locus 3 and abuts on the north to the southern flank of the Archaic structure wall. Locus 4 is very shallow, measuring approximately 3-5 cm in depth. Locus 4 has a downward slope from the north to the south. Locus 4 is considered to be non-contextual because of previous excavation and all materials found within would have been placed there organically through natural erosion; very little materials were found within and most were heavily abraded given the non-contextual nature of the locus. Locus 4 is full of small to medium sized rocks and a few small roots from the grouping of trees present within the southern baulk. Locus 4 is synonymous with Locus 3 and Locus 5.

Locus: 5

Date and Page Closed: 69

Munsell: 2.5 Y 6/3 Light Yellowish Brown

Description: Locus 5 is the locus directly to the east of Locus 3, contains the western buttressing rock that served as an architectural support to the terra cotta pipe and abuts on the north to the southern flank of the Archaic structure wall. Locus  is very shallow, measuring approximately 3-5 cm in depth. Locus 5 has a slight downward slope from the north to the south. Locus 5 is considered to be non-contextual because of previous excavation and all materials found within would have been placed there organically through natural erosion; very little materials were found within and most were heavily abraded given the non-contextual nature of the locus. Locus 5 is heavily compacted and is full of small to medium sized rocks and a few small roots from the grouping of trees present within the southern baulk. Locus 5 is synonymous with Locus 3 and Locus 4.

Locus: 6

Date and Page Opened: 73

Date and Page Closed: 117

Munsell: 2.5 Y 6/3 Light Yellowish Brown

Description: Locus 6 is the 1 meter by 4 meter northern extension of T101. This extension is comprised of the stone foundations of the southern extent of the Archaic phase wall. This locus was opened in order to increase visibility for the terracotta piping placed into a cut in the wall as detailed in Locus 7. The soil of Locus 6 is a light yellowish brown and is comprised of small roots extending into the locus from the trees present just to the north of the baulk and many medium to large stones which comprise the architectural framework to the Archaic phase wall. Locus 6 is fairly even with just the slightest slope from the west to the east given the natural slope of the terrain. Little materials were present within this locus and the majority came from the detailing that was done surrounding the rocks versus the detailing done directly on top of the rocks and most likely are products of erosional activity. Locus 6 is directly north of Loci 3, 4, and 5.

Locus: 7

Date and Page Opened: 87

Date and Page Closed: 117

Munsell: 2.5 Y 5/4 Light Olive Brown

Description: Locus 7 is the locus containing the terracotta pipe that is present within the southern wall of the Archaic building. Locus 7 contains the top half, bottom half, and all associated soil found within. Locus 7 is fairly deep, measuring approximately 30-35 centimeters in depth. The most amount of materials came from this locus, as this area was not previously excavated compared to Loci 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. The soil of locus 7 (the soil found within the confines of the terracotta pipe) is heavily compacted and is a light olive brown. Locus 7 yielded many fragments of bone, and pottery sherds which the majority could be categorized as impasto and fine impasto. There were also multiple large fragments of architectural terracotta that were found laying flat directly on the bottom of the terracotta pipe. Locus 7 is the locus directly below Locus 3 and is directly to the south of Locus 6.
