Boxes of Pottery 2

Boxes of Tile  1

The first cut consisted of an excavation to the depth of approx. 15 cm. It consisted of a rectangular strip 4 m long, A-D and 1 m wide, 23. The section designated D-23 has a surface of red soil suggestive of heavy burning or a packed pavement layer. The soil

has a brown color near the surface which is interlaced with small bits of carbon. The soil is of this color to a depth of 15 cm. The level an additional 3 cm below this layer consists of a light yellow strata resting upon patches of small packing stones. Small amounts of course-ware pottery, rims, bases, and handles were found above the packing layer. Bucchero fragments and bone were also found. Section A-23, near the northern boundary line of Rect. 5, revealed small chuncks of roofing tiles.
