Plan of Rectangle 5

Rectangle 5 is enclosed by foundation walls in the N.W. section of the upper building (for diagram see opposite page-for previous excavation in the area see and ). The designated grid system was adopted from .

The area under consideration is A-K, 1-23. All depth measurements are given relative to the existing ground line (for further clarification see profiles of trenches where applicable.

Experimental trenches dug in 1966 (see ) and in 1971 (see T. Gantz, Bk. 3, p. 23 ) revealed what appeared to be a lower building foundation wall running parallel to the northern upper building wall of Rect. 5. The purpose of this particular excavation is to uncover any lower building foundations initially revealed in 1966. this may also provide a corollation to T-18 (for further explaination see G. Warden, Bk. 3, p. 4-75 ).
