Did cut across eastern half of locus 2, then western half.

During this cut a sioil change was discovered. The floor was then swept and leveled to reflect the contours of the new soil. With this accomplished, new loci were created. Locus 3 was establshed over the western half of the trench (meters 1, half of 2, 5, 6, 9 and 10). Locus 4 encompassed two roots and a rock between them (points 10, 9 and 8, p.29). Locus 5 is the rock which almost directly covers the peak of the magnetic spike from the magnotometer survey. Locus 6 is a stump at the south end of the trench, east of the datum point ( point 6 p. 29). Locus 7 is the area covering meters half of 3, 4, 7, 8 and 12 and is qualititively the same as locus 3, just deeper and seperated by loci 4,5 and 6 (loci are detailed at the end of days entry). After this, pick cuts were taken in loci 3 and 7 alternately until lunch.

Continued excavating loci 3 and 7. A tile spread was discovered in locus 7 a S92 E198 at approx. 46 cm bd. Once this was found, excavation of locus 3 ceased and a new plan was devised. Loci 4,5 and 6are to be removed and then loci 3 and 7 are to be connected to determine the full extent of the tile spread. Locus 4 was further excavated while the tile spread was further defined.

Locus 2: 1/4 cassetta bulk wall terracotta (very worn), 9 sherds of impasto (very worn)(3r, 2h)

Locus 3: 1/4 cassetta bulk wall terracotta (very worn), 1/3 latte box of impasto sherds (worn)

Locus 4: 1/16 cassetta bulk wall terracotta (very worn), terracotta fragments

Locus 7: 1/8 cassetta bulk terracotta (very worn), 1/8 fragments from tile spread, 17 sherds of pottery (1r, 1h)

description: surface is light grey, but once opened the soil is olive grey, breaks up in  clumps, though still crumbles easily, and has small capillery roots  and much less smaller stones than in locus 2.

description: grouping of 2 stumps and a rock centered between them. The group seperated loci 3 and 7 and was not previously excavated as part of previous loci due to the difficulty of removing the stumps and the caution towards large rocks.
