A.M.

The rock pack in E-F/68-70 continued to be lifted.  The majority of large rocks in the pack have now been removed, bringing the trench to a depth of ca. 90cm to 1.05 meters.  The rock pack taperred off in meters E/68-70 where only a few, small stones appeared.  Beginning at a depth of ca. 95cm, the soil in the cut started to become increasingly clay-like in substance and concentrations of yellow and grey disintegrated plaster began to appear.  The soil itself remained dark brown in color.

One cassetta of mixed tile and plaster (75% tile, 25% plaster) was discovered.  Today marked the first appearance of plaster fragments of large size in the cut.  Previously only very small and worn plaster fragments had been encountered.  One box of mixed pottery was also

found.

Work also began in shoving down the stump in the northeast corner of meter E/70.  Several large pieces of tile and a well preserved fragment of a pithos base were removed from the roots under the stump.

The cut in A/68-70 was extended to a depth of ca. 60-65cm.  The soil was light brown in color and contained heavy concentrations of yellow and grey disintegrated plaster.  The soil was also very loose in consistency.  In the norhteast corner of A/70 a large pocket of grey-white, "powdery" soil was encountered.  A sample of this grey-white soil was taken down to the magazzino.  Only a few, small pieces of worn tile were discovered in the cut.  No pottery was found.

The cut in E-F/68-70 was extended to a depth of ca. 1.10 meters.  Only a few of the large rocks from the rock pack in these meters now remain.  The soil in the cut was dark brown in color and contained heavy concentrations of yellow disintegrated plaster and carbon chunks.  A large amount of pottery of all fabrics, including several large fragments of a coarse ware utility vessel, were found in meters E/68-70.

One half cassetta of mixed tile and plaster (70% tile, 30% plaster) were discovered in the cut.  One and a half boxes of mixed pottery and some bone were recovered.  The cut in meters A/68-70 was taken down to a depth of ca. 65-70cm.  The soil was light brown in color and contained heavy concentrations of yellow and orangedisintegrated plaster.  One quarter cassetta of worn tile and only a few pieces of coarse pottery were discovered in the cut.
