A.M.
The cut which was left unfinished in K/66 on Wednesday was completed today and extended into L(M)/66. The level of the trench floors averages between 75-85 cm and is very uneven due to concentrations of tile and stone which were found. An unusual line of tile and stones was uncovered running approximately North-South through meters K-L(M)/66 in approximately the middle of the meter. This feature does not seem to be a wall because of the significant amount of intrusive pottery and unusual positions of the tile in the line. This feature will be photographed this afternoon. The soil is consistantly medium brown with inclusions of plaster and carbon. Almost a full cassette of worn tile was found in these 2 meters. 1/2 a latte box of pottery was foudn in meter L(M)/66 including a strut of a ceramic stand with a portion of a hole (find #3).
Pottery was more hevily concentrated in meter K/66. 1 and 1/3 latti boxes of pottery were excavated
from this meter. Finds from this meter include 2 large profiles of rims, one of impasto (#1) and one of orangeware (#7). Also found was a portion of a wing handle with a stamp (#2), a decorated rocchetto (#6), and incised orangeware rim (#5), a fragment of painted creamware (#8), a fragment of an orangeware lid (#4), and a small portion of a worked ivory plaque (#9)
.

P.M.
The cut into meters K-L(M)/66 was extended into K-L(M)/65 but a portion of L(M)/65 remaines unexcavated to the depth of circa 80 cm. Again, the soil in the majority of meter K/65 is a light greenish-brown almost devoid of material but as one moves into L(M)/65, the soil changes into a darker brown with carbon and plaster inclusions in which more material is found. The line of stone and tile was photographed and partially removed. One possible explanation for this feature is an ancient depression in the groundline. This would account for the amount and variety of material excavated from this line. Found in this line of tile was a portion of stamped pottery (#10), a bronze rivet (#11) and a small piece of worked bone with a checkered pattern. The soil alonfthis tile line is brownish ornage, possibly stained by the terracotta in the vicinity.
