Began troweling down meters E187/S49-50 to determine the end of locus 16 and the beginning of locus 17. Took opening and closing measurements for locus 16 and 17 but those measurements could be contaminatied because of locus 16 cutting into 17. The amount of material has significantly dropped off. Very little tile or plaster has been found in locus 17. Locus 17 is characterized by a yellowish brown soil with some carbon and charcoal bits. Special finds for this morning consist of 2 pieces of painted Italo-Corinthian (finds #1 and 3), find #1 joins with 2 other fragments from 7/13 find #5 and 10, one large squarish bronze chunk(find #2) and one fragment of fenestrated pottery (find #4). this fragment is quite similar to several fragments found within this trench (refer to pg. 127 find #5 , pg. 129 find #10 , pg. 143 find #10 ) This morning's work yielded 1 1/2 latte boxes of pottery and bone and 1/8 of a cassette of extremely fragmentary tile.

Continued excavation within meters E186-188/S49-50. Soil remains relatively material free with some bone and pottery which is characteristic of locus 10. Trimmed the baulks down in which we found a bronze pin or nail shafts (find #5). Today's work yielded 3 latte boxes of pottery and bone and 1/4 a cassette of fragmentary tile and plaster
