Morning

A cut was extended 2 meters to the east in grids epsilon and zeta (still only half of zeta is being excavated) - epsilon-zeta/49-50.

A topsoil cut of 5-15 cm was made, yielding a small amount of pottery, some plaster, and quite a bit of tile. A large piece of vitrified matter or slag, like finds #1 and 2 from yesterday, was found at a depth of only 8 cm in epsilon/50.

Cut 2 was made in epsilon-zeta/49 down to 20-30 cm - just above the "floor" level in epsilon-zeta/48. A lot of tile, plaster, and pottery (mainly redware) was found in this cut. A rocchetto head (possibly redware) was uncovered in epsilon/49 at a depth of 24 cm. A cover tile fragment (with a fresh break - the other piece was not found) iwth an incised leter psi came out of this cut, but was found in the tile box.

Work was continued with a mestralina down

to "floor" level in epsilon-zeta/49. Only part of the area was cleaned down but the "floor" or hard packed plaster dows indeed continue in this direction. There was negligible tile or pottery in this layer just above the "floor."

Afternoon

Finished bringing epsilon-zeta/49 down to "floor" level. There turned out to be a lot of plaster (most of it with reed impressions) in this layer. Cut 2 was begun in epsilon-zeta/50. A huge amount of plaster was found here, as well as some large pan tile fragments (2 of which have been left "in situ") and some redware. This cut came down to 23-30 cm - the level just above the floor or hard packed plaster. Some

pithos fragments were found today also.
